Canada also has its own national soccer tournament to determine the best national team. Created in 2008, the Canadian Championship takes place from April to October and is played in a knockout format, from the Round of 16 onwards. The top soccer clubs in the country take part in the Championship. This includes the 3 MLS clubs, the 8 teams from the Canadian Premier League, and the respective champions of the four major regional leagues (Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Québec). Note that the winner of the previous edition qualifies directly for the quarter-finals.
