Champions League format

The Champions League is a yearly football competition that brings together the best European clubs.
The lowest-ranked clubs start with several qualifying rounds. The Champions League group stage begins, where the 32 best European football clubs are divided into eight groups of 4. At the end of the group stage, the two best clubs qualify for the Round of 16. The knockout phase begins in round-robin matches from the Round of 16 to the semi-finals.

The final of the Champions League is played in a single game and on neutral ground.

Thirty-two clubs are drawn into eight groups of 4 (A to H) and play 96 matches in a round-robin format. The 3rd of each group is drawn to Round 32 of the Europa League. Only sixteen teams (the 8 group winners and the eight runners-up) advance to the knockout phase.
