The Champions League is a football competition organised by UEFA. It brings together the best European clubs every year. The tournament is played in several phases. At first, the lowest-ranked clubs start with several qualifying rounds. The group stages of the Champions League then begin, where the 32 best European football clubs are divided into 8 groups of 4. At the end of the group stages, the 2 best clubs from each group qualify for the round of 16. Finally, the knockout stages played in the form of round-robin matches from the round of 16 to the semi-finals. The final of the Champions League is played in a single match and on neutral ground.

Only sixteen teams advance from the Group stages (the 8 group winners and the 8 runners-up) to the knockout phase. The 3rd of each group is drawn to the Round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League.
