The schedule has been confirmed and the 2026 Leagues Cup is back, featuring the very best of Major League Soccer and Liga MX. The sixth edition of the tournament will see 18 mexican clubs and the best 18 MLS teams competing in an exciting new format. The Leagues Cup will take place from August 4th until September 6th, 2026, on US and Canadian soil.

2026 Leagues Cup Format – What’s New?
The tournament kicks off with Phase One, from August 4th until August 13th. The 36 clubs are divided into play three group-stage games each. Since 2025, each match of the first phase will feature a Major League Soccer club against a Liga MX opponent.
How Do Teams Qualify for the Knockout Rounds?
A new league-specific points system will determine which teams advance: While facing opponents from the rival league, MLS and Liga MX teams will compete in separate league-specific tables.
- MLS teams earn points in the Leagues Cup MLS table.
- Liga MX teams earn points in the Leagues Cup Liga MX table.
The top four teams from each league’s standings will advance directly to the quarterfinals, where once again the matches are guaranteed to be between a Mexican and a North American club. The 2026 Leagues Cup final is set for September 6th, 2026.
Venue privileges
Note that, should they progress, Inter Miami, as defending MLS Cup champions, would host all knockout matches . The same applies to Deportivo Toluca (Liga MX Apertura and Clausura Champions), except if facing Inter Miami. This fact is anecdotal for the Mexican team, given that they will be playing away from home, whatever happens.
